Okay so I'm going to move the critique back to Wednesday. No homework over break. I don't feel like you got a fair chance to talk about job folders and how critique works for this since not all of you have been through this process before. Make sure you use the extra time wisely. We will spend time in class on Monday talking about the critique before hand and uploading to issuu an interactive version, but we will be doing a in-class assignment instead of using the time to work on spreads so don't plan an having an additional work day on Monday for the magazine that is Friday (which remember has no class). Make sure that your final document has styles for every required element, pushes the concept with type and illustration or photos.

Wednesday, Sept. 30

Please have your magazines with another printed rough for your job folder. Please work hard to get them ready to go with illustrations and other material intact. Wednesday will be one final day to work. Make sure you have all required elements, styles and everything set up in the document. Digital copy of the document will also be required on issuu and the raw file to check styles of the document. Don't forget no class on Friday!

Monday, Sept. 28

Please have your magazine and cover in a close to final rough format. Really have this looking as professional as possible. All photos and illustrations need to be done. We will do final tweaking in class on Monday. Be ready to really tear this apart. Please have them printed in booklet format for rough for your job folder. We need to see how it works in that format.

Monday, Sept. 21

Please have your thumbnails for your spreads finished and ready to look over in class on Monday. Have three roughs (two at least with completely different treatments) of your cover printed out for job folder on Monday. We will be working on setting type for spreads on Monday so please have your article typed and ready to go into InDesign.

Don't forget cookout and bonfire at my house at 6 pm on Monday night for AIGA!

Friday, Sept. 18

Please have your thumbnails of your cover and visual briefs for the cover and spreads printed out. 2 separate sheets (one for covers and one for spreads. Please don't mix). We will be working on layout techniques for spreads on Friday. Please have your article of choice typed out in a word document so that we can work with text on Friday.

Wednesday, Sept. 14

Please have your chosen "ugly" magazine design selected and with you in class on Wednesday. Be prepared to talk about your choice. Have two visual briefs printed out and on 8.5x11 for your job folder. One with images of covers designs that you like and one with images of magazine spread design that you like. See ya then!

Also power points on type systems, magazine design and basic type anatomy are uploaded on moodle and you can view them whenever you need to review.

Friday, Sept. 11 - CLASS CANCELED

Hi guys,

Sorry for the short notice but have a very sick kiddo and need to stay home tomorrow. CLASS IS CANCELED. Please complete all of your eight posters type systems posters / have them printed out for class on Monday.

I AM TYPE posters
Set of 8 posters / 11x17. Please use a typographic system per poster / 8 total It is up to you what type of font, color and how the essay will be broken up on the posters. The entire essay needs to spread across the 8 posters. The posters need to look like a set despite all the different systems used and standardized colors and font family will help this. Have all 8 ready to view in one pdf for Friday's class. Here is your essay.

Please come one hour later to class. We will start at 2:10 pm. Sorry forgot to mention that today. I have to lecture at Freshman Seminar course. Be ready to show your type poster in class. Must be color / 11x17 / have all the lower case and uppercase showcased in an interesting way that supports the style of the handwriting that you are transcribing. Mae sure it's printed out. We will be talking about type systems on Friday and gearing up for our next project.
