Please bring all your book making materials back to class on Friday. We will use the day as a solid work day to finish two final editions of your books. One sketchbook and one flag book.

Please place your finished JUFF articles in the dropbox folder. We will hopefully finish out the document on Wednesday. No worktime will be provided for this in class.

Bring all your book making supplies. Also bring out a double sided photo print. We will make an actual flag book and a hard cover book on Wednesday. Make sure you bring your glue, ruler, exacto, matte board and specialty paper.

Please have your articles laid out according to the style guide for class. Ethan / Courtney S please have your website look and cover finalized. We will be building the document in class and making sure that everyone fits to the style and then turning things over. Please bring your book binding materials to class just in case we have enough time to go over another demo.

I apologize I was stuck in a board meeting for RIFA downtown and couldn't sneak to my phone without being rude.

Please have your 12 page zine printed out and bound at the start of class on Wednesday. We will have a quick typography history quiz and bring your bookbinding materials to class. We will spend the morning going over two different book structures to add to your cannon of bookbinding knowledge.

Friday, October 17, JUFF Critique

CRITIQUE
Please have an interactive pdf of your website for to show on screen. Make sure you dress in critique attire. Also have your cover under glass.

Design proposal - written to client explaining design choices. Your voice past the critique. Make sure this is designed. Rewrite if issues with the first proposal or doesn't match final look.

Remember you are presenting to a panel. Talk to the whole panel not just to one individual. Talk out the concept. They are English majors and enjoy a good narrative. Stand your ground when you speak. Don't hide behind the computer.

UPDATE
Just got word that they are needing to meet at 2 pm instead of 1 pm. Give you a little extra time to get everything in order. We will start class at 1:50 to make sure we are all set before they come in to critique. See you all then!

You must turn in your visual brief (pdf attachment) and email your design proposal to me by Tuesday, October 8 - 5 pm.

From there start to generate research (this can be on the subject matter of academic journals, background on the JUFF, research on your idea, etc - think no less than 5 pages). Start to thumbnail. Rough out your website and cover. The cover should include a logotype for your masthead. Volume number, date, "a publication of Union University Faculty Forum." Websites please have four pages designed (HOME page, EDITORIAL BOARD page, ARCHIVE page, SUBMIT page). Please pull content from http://www.uu.edu/journals/juff/. Please bring your branding and idea across the formats.

Webpage - use the web aspect ratio on illustrator / design on a grid!!
Cover - 8.5x5.5 for the cover

Come with printed roughs (several options) / Thumbnails / Research / Design Proposal (copy of your email) / Visual Brief to class on WED Oct 16 because critique for this FRI Oct 18.

Again, go back to the job folder order in an older post. Make sure that you have all your roughs. You will need two copies of your magazine. One to pass along. One for your job folder and one uploaded to issuu for the big screen. Good luck! Also plan on working out the JUFF. Critique is the 18th of October. The 21st of October will be the due date for the 12 page zine.

Friday, October 4

Please print off two tweaked spreads and covers for Friday. Should be making sure the type is set well, the eye moves across the page and interacts well with the illustrations or photographs that we are using. Friday, we will be spending most of the day working on zines. Bring your glue and scissors to class on. Those of you who haven't had a chance make sure that you sign up for the art retreat on Ms. Kelsey's door by Thursday. Don't forget AIGA Thursday at 5 pm in A72. Ben and Hilary will be discussing their internship experiences this summer and we've got jobs to divide up!
